Day 42 – Moved Out of Phoenix and Into Tucson

January 25, 2010 by Rob 3 Comments

Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Farm Deer

A short day’s drive from Destiny RV Park in Goodyear through to our new 3 day home in Tucson. We stopped at the Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch along the way before leveling out our RV at Whispering Palms RV Park. Then we took a quick tour of Fourth Avenue in downtown Tucson and did some shopping.

Days 12-18 – Destiny RV Park Phoenix

January 1, 2010 by Darlene 6 Comments

The week following our holidays in Phoenix was spent getting our bearings around the Destiny RV Park, finding resources, getting the BBQ working and taking full advantage of the hot tub a few hundred feet from our motorhome each night. One side trip so far, to the Apache Trail and the famous Route 88.

Day 8 – Death Valley California Part Two

December 22, 2009 by Darlene 8 Comments

Dante's Peak

Touring Death Valley for the 2nd day in a row, we wanted to see more of the sights. Today we first climbed the 15% grade up to Dante’s View at 5600+ feet where it was hailing, then down to Bad Water at 284 feet BELOW sea level. It’s not supposed to rain in Death Valley, but we were in the middle of a full on rains storm. We waited it out and then drove back up the road to the Natural Bridge just before sunset. Dinner was at the Death Valley Junction Cafe where Rob had to have the Death Valley Junction Burger and coleslaw.

Day 7 – Death Valley California Part One

Amargosa opera house

The day started early at 7:30am and it was a little nippy in the RV to say the least.  It was about 66f when we went to bed, and prayed we’d have enough propane to last the night – NOT! It was a balmy 46f in the morning and Dar was only saved from freezing […]

Day 6 – Two Days in Pahrump Nevada

December 20, 2009 by Darlene 4 Comments

We left Mesquite Nevada, stopped into the Whole Foods in Vegas and then climbed a very long and steep hill as we crossed the mountain range and headed down into Pahrump Nevada, home of Art Bell. After a little shopping for odds and ends we needed (vacuum and new sewer hose), we visited the Pahrump Desert Winery for a tasting.

RV Travel Thoughts

Free Stuff .... sort of

You never know when your luck will draw to you free stuff along the road. 6 months, roughly 22 states and a smattering of Provinces puts a person in enough situations where free stuff, just seems to come your way. While we didn't play poker, we did put $5 into a nickle slot and win $104. That's free money in my books. In Tombstone, we walked into Big Nose Kate's, saddled up to the bar and are asked "would you like a margarita?" and were given a free drink. This happened again in Texas. We also got a free months electricity at an RV park that will remain nameless (wont say why either, and no we didn't "unplug and run")

Pee Before Driving Through Cities

When you're driving an RV, you travel with your toilet, but while the passenger has the luxury of peeing while you move, the driver does not. I've learned that before entering any city limits, it's a good idea to find a place to pull over and pee because while on the Interstate, there are no pull outs to be found. They say the human bladder can hold 18 oz or 1/2 a litre of fluid, but I would wager it to be a lot more.
